Winter Night Shelter to start in Slough
It’s always tough to live on the streets, but winter is the hardest time of all. There are currently 40 rough sleepers in Slough, (a record high), and SHOC in conjunction with The London & Slough Run are planning to offer some help by setting up a night shelter for the cold weather season.
Nine local churches have kindly agreed to make their buildings available and all of the venues have been assessed by our Health and Safety advisor.
The programme will launch on Monday the 27th of January and extend to Sunday March the 9th and the scheme will be in place seven days a week. We now need volunteers to support the operation of the shelter. Volunteers are needed to help with the following;
Venue set up, meeting and greeting , befriending. (Evenings 7:30 -10:30pm )
Overnight volunteers (10pm – 7am) There will be a contracted security guard at every venue, each night.
Cleaners from 7am
Minibus Drivers (Evenings 7pm – 8:30pm) mornings (6:30am – 8.00am)
Drivers are required to have a category D1 driving licence for at least 2 years and be aged between 25 and 70. We do need two volunteers on each minibus trip so even if you can’t be the driver you could be the conductor (but no fares to collect).
All volunteers must be over 18 years old. and volunteer training and induction will be held at The Centre, Farnham Rd, Slough S1 4UT on Saturday the 25th of January from 2 pm to 4 pm.
If you are interested in helping could you please email email@example.com with name, address, contact details and availability. Alternatively you can call John Power (London and Slough Run Chairman) on 07837 333986 with your details. All volunteers will be insured by the London and Slough run.
